Create Your Dream Wedding on a Budget

#1 Determine Your Budget

Creating your dream day doesn’t have to cost the earth. Decide what’s important to you and what isn’t, determine your budget and how much you are going to spend on the things that matter to you. Too many brides aim for the best venue, the unlimited drinks package, the top of the range wedding car and only after they’ve got their heart set on something do they ask themselves how they’re going to pay for it. Ask yourself what you can afford to spend on each item and stick to that budget. You’ll be amazed at what you can find. Bridal Boutiques across the country sell top of the range designer wedding dresses for as little as £450!! You need to keep your wits about you, keep your eyes peeled but you can achieve your dream wedding whilst on a budget.

#2 Receive Maximum Interest on Your Savings

Whether you’re saving up yourself or you’ve been gifted money from a family member, do your research to find which savings accounts offers the most interest. After all, it’s free money you can’t afford to lose.

Would You Like To Get Your Hands On Free Money?

#3 Choose out of season

When it comes to your wedding venue, choose a date that’s off season. This way, you can get married in an absolute dream wedding venue but at half the price!! Winter weddings tend to be a lot cheaper because it’s a less popular time to get married but with winter being such a magical and festive time of year, it’s the perfect time to tie the knot!

#4 Choose in season

Okay, so that totally contradicts what I just said but bear with me. When it comes to booking your wedding venue, you want to choose off season but when it comes to choosing your flower arrangements, you want to choose ones that are in season. Sourcing out of season flowers can be pricey!

The Best Things In Life Are Free … Especially When It Comes To Planning Your Wedding

#5 Ask the right questions

Make sure you ask vendors if VAT is included. The last thing you want is to come in over budget because you didn’t ask the right questions.

#6 Cash in

Overwhelmed with the cost of the venue, buffet, drinks package and accommodation? Cash in by booking a complete wedding package for £999 at the Holiday Inn. Not a fan of hotel weddings? Book a viewing when it’s being set up for a wedding. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how these rooms can be transformed into something spectacular.

Is It Brash To Ask For Cash?

#7 Pay early in exchange for a freebie

Make sure you ask your chosen vendors if there’s anything they can throw in for free. You’ll be amazed at what you could receive by paying the venue off in full. Free firework display, champagne and even desert canapes.

#8 Barter

Make sure you ask around to get an accurate idea of costs. You don’t want to be burned by someone charging more than the going rate. Also, if you obtain a cheaper quote elsewhere, you may be able to use that to your advantage to get your perfect wedding vendor for slightly less money.

Can A Wedding Really Earn You Cash?

#9 Don’t borrow more than you can afford to pay back

Ideally, you want to avoid taking out credit however with the average wedding costing up to £25,000, this may be a reality you need to face. If you’re in a position of needing finance, opt for a 0% interest credit card over 24 months. This gives you 2 years to pay back the loan with no interest to contend with.

#10 Get Cashback

Cashback credit cards pay you every time you spend on them. Some companies give as much as 5% cashback for every £100 you spend. That’s a grand total of £5! With wedding purchases being fairly large, you’ll be surprised at how quickly this adds up.

5 Wedding Loan Alternatives

#11 Purchase a Cancelled Wedding Date

Wedding Venues frequently have cancellations and with venues desperate to fill the dates at such short notice, you could bag your dream venue for 70% less! Bear in mind though that if you put your name down for a cancellation, you might only have months, even weeks to your big day so make sure you are prepared with everything else such as your wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses, grooms attire etc. If you’re not phased leaving it to the last minute, you could always book a last minute wedding as the same savings could be made.

#12 Don’t mention the word wedding

Although it’s exciting to shout ‘I’m getting married!’ from the rooftops, one thing is guaranteed, people hear the word wedding and rank their prices up. Try to avoid using the ‘w’ word wherever possible.

#13 Make small sacrifices

If every morning you rely on a coffee to kick start your day at an approximate cost of £3 per day. £3 x £365 days in a year, that’s a whopping saving of £1,095!!! Now, you can double that if you plan to save over 2 years making you savings of £2,190 which covers your wedding dress, venue or whatever else you’d like to spend your money on. The thought of kicking a habit sounds good now right?
